On the Move.....

I was so excited to let every one know that I have a shop! As I added more things to my 200 square feet room in Ogden. I realized I needed more space. I thought I would look online for a bigger space. Amazingly enough I found 2400 sq ft space. Part of the space is a big commercial shop for sanding and painting! We all know what a mess you make before your done with your creation. I can't wait to start moving in tomorrow. Today I had movers load a 26 ft truck. Yippee I get my garage back!

It has around 700 sq ft showroom. With a lot of storage. It's great space in Orem, Utah which is about a half hour commute from my home. I can't wait to get some pictures up online. I thought I should let you know. I'm looking forward showing it off and sharing it with my friends and family. Vintage girl is growing up!

View of houses

This striking three-bedroom house forms part of one the most remarkable housing developments built in the UK during the 1960s. Designed by Laurie Abbott in 1966, this small-scale development is an example of post-war architecture at its most exciting. Abbott, who until his recent retirement was a senior director at the Richard Rogers Partnership, has been an instrumental figure on some of the most significant architectural achievements of the 20th century, including the Pompidou Centre and Lloyd's of London.

The house is one of 32, built in blocks of four among landscaped surroundings in the small, well-connected Surrey town of Frimley. The current owners have sympathetically maintained and updated the house to a high standard, including the fitting of double-glazed windows throughout. The property comes with a garage, a small courtyard garden and access to the more extensive communal gardens.

Frimley is easily accessed by road via the nearby M3, which leads directly into London and to the M25. It has a small train station which connects to London trains, however most Frimley residents who travel regularly to London prefer to drive or take the bus to nearby Farnborough station (approximately 5 minutes) to take the regular fast trains to Waterloo (journey time approximately 35 minutes). Frimley is well served by supermarkets, high-street shops and restaurants. It is also very close to the open Surrey and Hampshire countryside and green spaces such as Frimley Lodge Park.

Vintage Modern Design

What is Vintage Modern Design? Well, it's a term I've coined. A lot of what I design has a use of bold colors. The richness of a chocolate brown, the warmth of chivalry copper, and the coolness of robin egg blue.....bring life to my home and to the furniture pieces I design. What about you?

How do you bring modern design to your vintage pieces? Visit my shoppe for more ideas: http://tatteredbutterflyshoppe.blogspot.com

Hang Around + Toss Around for Muuto

kibisi along with muuto have designed 'hang around and toss around',
a collection of kitchen utensils that combine form, function and craftsmanship.
the series will be previewed for the first time at maison et objet 2011.
the collection of simple wooden tools are precisely designed and crafted

for improved functionality in the kitchen.
jens martin skibsted, partner of copenhagen based kibisi says:
'we were originally inspired by bhutanese crafts. their wooden everyday
tools seem to have layers of stories and thoughts. we concocted that with our
scandinavian design heritage and our idea-lead, no fluff design philosophy
and this little invention was bread.'
'hang around' clings to the side of pots and pans
the sculpted and continuous form of 'hang around' is interrupted by a
slim extrusion cut from the backside that allows the utensil to cling to the
side of a pot or pan. this minimal alteration to the everyday object provides
the chef with a cleaner workspace and a more effective use of time.

Stainless Steel Kitchen Design Cabinet

Stainless steel kitchen design cabinet

This spacious kitchen has been done up in white with black breaking its monotony incessantly. The light hanging above adds coziness to the ambience while the small wooden plank serves as a place to dine for two. The stainless steel table top stretching across the kitchen gives the user lots of space to move. Although the photo above might be a little higher, stainless steel is almost obvious when it comes to kitchen appliances. Of course you have other options, but why not the conventional steel and stainless steel modern, refined and elegant?

Is always in fashion, and, nine times out of ten without any enclosure set decoration itself.

So what is it stainless steel that is so appealing?

First, is a sophisticated material. Oven, refrigerator, dishwasher and even, yes, the trash can enjoy a gleaning of sophistication when you choose to have stainless steel.

If you can get all the equipment - large and small - in stainless steel, your kitchen is a sleek, elegant uniform look to push.

Stainless steel is a clean look, one that makes the area look neat and organized so well. The clean lines and a reflective surface would be a most luxurious of all the house.

Although stainless steel appliances will stand out better than if you choose to hide, it makes a brave, beautiful shot. Stainless steel is the material brave designers who want to highlight their elegant style.

If you are looking for a way to make your kitchen a sophisticated style, timeless yet ultra-modern stainless steel is the way forward.

Work in Progress!

My Powder Room

Has anybody noticed the changes in my blog? Of course you have haha...it is wider, bigger and more colourful. I am coming up to my 100th post and have been reflecting on how my small decorating blog has 'travelled' over the last year. There have been weeks where I have posted almost everyday but then months have gone by and not a single, solitary word...I shall call this 'what on earth am I going to write about that will be remotely interesting'!!!

Anyway, what started me thinking about my own blog, was after reading an article on this subject by Maria from Colour Me happy Not only a great post to read but also the comments from other bloggers are very helpful and insightful. Here is the link...

Well, I am listening and learning so after much mucking around with codes (I cant believe that I actually learnt how to change my template by changing the html code format) I found a much easier way. Phew!!! and managed to do it without deleting my whole blog like I almost did when changing the code thingie.

So...this will be a work in progress project. Fine tuning the colour format and working out why I have all this empty white space next to my header picture!

Vintage Girl

Yep that's me. Vintage girl! I just can't get enough of vintage furniture, glass ware, windows, linens.....This list is very long and too long to list right now.

I wonder where did it come from? Was it from my Great Grandma Weber, Great Grandma Betschart, or my grandparents, or my parents? I have so many precious memories from all of them.

I can see my Great Grandma Weber in her kitchen slicing softball sized peaches. The juice just dripping from her hands. I loved the sweet little flowered bowls she placed here deliciously sweet peaches in. I can see her wrinkled hands pouring thick fresh cream from the pitcher she always had in her refrigerator.

Preparing every meal from scratch for my Great Grand Father and his brother, Uncle Ferdie as I knew him. Yes, she was from hardy stock, Switzerland to be exact. She was stubborn, a perfectionist, and stern. The thick accent that I could hardly understand and her voice boomed when she spoke which made me some what scared of her. Though I always wanted to visit her when I was a child.

The vintage girl in me loves the smell of freshly sliced peaches, old little flowered bowls, the small pitcher of cream, and especially her wrinkled hands that showed me that is how she loved her family.

This is one thread of tapestry of the vintage girl in me.....

When you are planning to "lighting design" in her new room, you should be conscious of the three types of lighting. Not all rooms should have three types of lighting. You will need to decide for themselves when and where these types of lighting design  are needed.

Lighting Design Ideas
1. Task Lighting
Task to help you perform specific tasks, such as reader, knitting, general office work and desk lamps design , etc. are usually the best choice for task lighting design  because they can provide illumination focused on the area. For example, typically, a chandelier will not be good for reading. Light, however, may in good light and would be likely to cause bad shadows or glare on your business. Table / desk lamp is also portable in case you need to adjust its position.

2. Accent Lighting
Accent lighting design  is usually responsible for establishing mood or room. I helped to focus attention and drama in a room by illuminating objects such as paintings, sculptures, installations, fireplaces, etc. incorporated lighting after lighting or wall sconces are often used to provide accent lighting design . Portable lamps as torchieres and small accent lamps can also be used as a characteristic of some areas of the room. Do not be afraid to move around and experiment accent lamps.

3. Ambient / General Lighting
Ambient lighting covers the rest of the lights design  in the room. This is usually from ceiling lights, floor lamps that shine on the ceiling, and excess light from table lamps and accent lighting. A good recommendation is to use 3-way lighting design  when possible so that you can easily achieve different levels of illumination only by adjusting the lamp. Dimmer switches also offer a great way to control the level of ambient light in the room.
